In Harold Pinter’s A Slight Ache, an affluent older couple, Edward and Flora, invite a silent, weathered matchseller into their garden. Confronted by the stranger's lingering silence, Edward spirals into psychological ruin and madness, while Flora finds empowerment. The play ends with Edward’s total disintegration and Flora replacing him with the matchseller.
